A Pinal County Sheriff's deputy was shot in the stomach Friday after a traffic stop on Interstate 8, according sheriff's officials.

Authorities said the deputy was shot by a suspected undocumented immigrant and other suspects were being sought.

The deputy apparently pulled over a vehicle on Interstate 8 near Arizona 84 at about 4:30 p.m. Friday. When the deputy approached the vehicle, he was shot in the stomach, said Lt. Tamatha Villar, spokesperson for the Pinal County Sheriff's Office

No further details were immediately available. Sky 12 is responding to the scene.

Well this is definitely going to stir the pot (debate) over illegal immigration in AZ and throughout the country.

Now the supporters will say this would have never have happened had this law not been enacted and the (illegal alien) was in fear of his life and being deported. I work with allot of immigrants and from the stories I hear some towns down south are lawless, so what would you expect from someone who is used to living without restriction or respecting authority.

Best Wishes to the Sheriff!!!
So, the supporters agree it's ok to shoot a cop?

No, if anything, this shows that AZ lawmakers are right. These illegals need to go, and go now.
The deputy has been found and is being airlifted to a hospital.

Arizona Army National Guard troops + state and local LEOs are looking for up to 7 suspects.

EDIT: the suspects are now shooting at helicopters involved in the manhunt.
I do not see how it should affect the debate. People have been getting shot over immigration for years.

Oh wait, I see, he shot a COP?

(end sarcasm)

Illegals have been shooting people for years. I guess it made the news now because......oh yeah......

Inbound prayers for the Officer and his family.

Why is it that you can never find an Apache helicopter when you need one?

No I think you misinterpreted what I said. It's an argument I think you will hear. These people will now do anything to escape being caught and sent back thus jeopardizing public safety.

As a side note: I work in a restaurant and a news anchor for telamundo (who is a regular) was in this morning an I asked what she thought of the situation and she responded by saying it was unconstitutional. She didn't like my response to that. The point is when people are supporting a cause for whatever their reasons - sometimes they do so blindly, not seeing the bigger picture because they are caught up in the emotional aspect. We see the effect on the country. They see the effect on their people.

+1 on this
he bottom line is...they're ILLEGAL !!

That word alone should be good enough.

It's illegal to rob a bank
It's illegal to rape your neighbor
It's illegal to evade taxes

....see a trend here ?
