Now an Ex NYer
AURORA, Colo. -- An overnight shooting inside a movie theater near the Aurora Mall has killed 14 people and injured at least 50 people, according to police officers at the scene.
More than 250 police officers from across the metro area -- from Brighton to Jefferson County -- have been called out to respond and are gathering near the parking lot near the Dillard's entrance.
According to a mortician called out to the scene, a person went into the movie theater showing the premiere of the "Dark Knight Rises", set off a smoke grenade and started firing.
Between 12 and 15 shots were fired. At least eight people were shot and others were injured by scrap metal pepper bomb, the mortician said.
A spokeswoman for Swedish Hospital said the hospital has received two patients in critical condition and up to 20 more patients are expected to be arriving.
A spokeswoman for University Hospital and Denver Health said that victims were also arriving at University Hospital. Witnesses told 7NEWS that the bullets were fired in Theater 8 but bullets also pierced the nearby theater.
An Aurora police spokeswoman confirmed that officers are responding to a shooting at the Century 16 Movie Theaters.
