As the proud owner of 4 herniated lumbar discs I can tell you to see the ortho and get a real MRI not just an xray. Don't go back to the chiro until the Dr says it's ok too.

Allot of people think it is the lifting that hurts when many times its the twisting. In fact one of the worst times my back "went out" is when I was just combing my hair and we are not talking about a very heavy comb.
Everyone's back is different what works for one may not work for someone else and may in fact make it worst.
Aquabach is right real Doc first and let him refer you if he does.

Naproxin, hot bath, ice, rest, repeat ...

Stay away from any doctor named Schneider*.

Mine goes out, most commonly, when I simply bend down over the bathroom sink to splash water on my face or just spit out toothpaste. Almost never when I'm doing yard work or shoveling snow.

(* Typically Jewish, but the name means "cutter" in German.)

+1 on Twisting or side impacts.

Even a sneeze could do it...saw it happen years ago to a prof in college.

I've found a very hot shower helps...hot bath too, but you might not be able to get out of the tub.

K. Have to find one now for tomorrow being im layed up and need to get this fixed ASAP
I had, and many others I know, a good experience with Dr's Leppard & Corso in Syosset/Woodbury area. They typically have a very busy office though so not sure if tomorrow is going to work. They have an MRI right in their office.

These things don't heal fast so don't expect it to. If speed is the only thing that concerns you, drop a handful of percocet every day for the next 6 months but you'll never have the same physical abilities again. Ask me how I know
