Last year, 6,542 firearms were caught. I guess he is not alone. :D

The Bloomberg regime would have fried him. Not sure what “Eric” will do. But I’m sure his day is ruined.

Even if the guy's actions weren't ill-intended, he is too irresponsible to own handguns. Mistakes like that are inexcusable.

My son retired from the MTA PD and now is a PO in a Southern airport and he tells me many pistols are confiscated from travelers, many folks just don't know the law or just flat forget they have the gun. The big difference is in S.C. you are not arrested but you do lose your pistola. Just a little story he told me from last week a fellow traveling to Africa was stopped by TSA because in his luggage he had 1/2 a fresh killed goat which he intended to cook with his family so talk about not knowing laws.

My guess, assuming nothing nefarious, is they had used the bag as a range bag at some point and didn't very carefully check the bag before using it as a carry on bag. This happened to me with a knife coming back from Denver after a weekend edged weapons training seminar (no, we weren't practicing with really knives). I had a "live" balisong which was not only prohibited to have in a checked bag but also illegal to have in Denver. The Denver police very kindly asked me to go to the in airport shipping store and mail the knife to my home in NY (no criminal charges).

Two weeks later I did get a $250 fine from TSA that was reduced to $125 if paid within 15 or 30 days. I learned my lesson. I'm paranoid about very thoroughly checking my carry on bags.

TSA will determine if a fine is necessary. They do take in account certain circumstances. Police can make an arrest for certain weapons.
