So I’ve been wanting to get a buffer to barrel set up all from the same company for my Ar-9, and I was liking Taccom’s set up but their XLW/ULW 16” barrels are actually 5.5” rifled, and the rest is barrel shroud. They make a point of stating it’s pinned and welded and the legal length is 16”. Is this still legal with a detachable magazine? It doesn’t fall under a flash hider, compensator, or suppressor. Pin and weld Is legal via ATF at least to bring a barrel up to the needed 16”. I did see an old thread about it, but that was nearly a decade ago.

If it’s pinned and welded then yes it’s a 16” barrel. As per ATF
