I used to have a Silverado...I loved it even though it only had the V6 in it.  Now I drive a Ram, but had I found an Avalanche for the same price, I'd have stayed Chevy.

I love it .... The rest of my fleet includes a Suburban 2500 4X4, 454SS pickup & an E350 Van so its uniqueness crosses over all 3

And I know some one is going to ask so ..... gas mileage, Summer [to Rhode Island or South Carolina] 16 mpg around town 10.
Fall/Winter [up to hunting camp] 12 - 13 mpg. Speed makes a HUGE difference .... this truck punches a BIG HOLE in the air ..... the difference between 55 & 75 is about 20%

I have an 07 Escalade EXT 6.2L AWD (pretty much identical). I also had an 03 EXT 6.0L AWD. If you can afford the 07+ Avalanche go with that. But the 02-06 are also nice.

My 07 currently gets 11.5MPG combined which isnt too bad for a 6.2L. I tow a trailer and have the factory 22's so that kills the mileage. My 03 was only getting 10MPG combined with 18" rims. Its great for hauling big stuff cause you can open the midgate and you got a pickup bed that comes all the way up to the front seats. If your looking at the 02-06 take a look at the 4WD system, i know they had a lot of problems.

Ya there is a major price jump from 2004 to 2007.. I assume it is the newer body style.

I don't mind the older one frankly, but most I've seen are in the 150k mileage range.

Do you mind me asking how much the 04 was?

Just for reference I paid $14,000 for my 03 EXT w/ 76k miles + navigation in 2008.  And I paid $22,750 for my 07 EXT w/ 99k miles + navigation + factory 22" chrome rims in 2011.  Both off craigslist.  Best deals are private sales with cash.  I was looking into Avalanches both times but noticed the Escalade EXT's were priced only a few thousand more than the Avalanche.  For the looks and options the Escalade EXT is a better deal  8)
