Is it illegal to draw pictures of shooting people? Pretty sure even as an adult you are allowed to draw whatever the hell you want.
The picture is a bit disturbing. But if nothing was done and then he lashed out, people would be screaming that the warning signs were not acted upon. Slippery slope.
The stick figure must have been holding an assault weapon
It can be seen as a threat.
Isn't it freedom of speech?
When I was that age we all fantasized about the school being burned to the ground.  I never met a kid who didn't.  Any child Psychiatrist should have been able sort it out - probably warranted a "chat", but not an arrest.
Well, had he drawn the same thing but had the shooter aiming at Bush or at a Tea Party member, they would have called it free speech and he would have gotten an award of some kind I am sure.
This is ridiculous.  Maybe the boy need some therapy, which he was getting.  He certainly did not need to be arrested.  Just ridiculous.
So what crime did he actually commit? Criminal doodling in the 3rd degree?
This is crazy!! My sun is 10 and draws stick figures shooting bazookas, and all kinds of stuff.  He is actually a great artist. I hope he never puts a name on one of the figures.
Look, I get that the school is worried, give the kid detention. But arresting him? An adult could not be arrested for drawing that picture, do we hold kids to a higher standard or something? I've seen gangmembers with openly displayed tatoos promising the death of various races, religions and even police. Why are their pictures considered freedom of expression, but this kid gets hauled off at the age of 11?

If this were this my child, the news story would have been covering my death before they took him away. Coming to your home to arrest your son for a doodle... That is the sort of thing that happens in China or Iran. Personally, that would have been over the line of no return for me.
No, this type of stuff does not happen in China. Cant speak for Iran. Pretty certain its retarded everywhere else in the world too.

Just because your an adult- doesn't make you intelligent.
I remember drawing people being shot when I was in 2nd grade. The teachers called my momma and that was it. How can you arrest an 11 year old for drawing a picture? This isn't North Korea!

Yep this.. Drawing a pic of a guy with a gun, and drawing a pic of a guy with a gun and writing "teachers must die!" is a bit different.. Something serious had to be done, but putting him in a cell with handcuffs is a bit much.
Biggest load of SH!T ive ever seen... HES 11!!
If drawing people with guns is a crime then arrest me now because that's what i've done for a living the last 20 years... lol.

Agreed. The text brings it over the edge a bit.
I recall many doodles that might have had me committed had I done them today 8)

I'm not so sure it is the drawing as much as the written message/threat.
I own guns, I love guns and all three of my boys are raised around them every day.  They are tought to respect them and to understand their purpose not only for their safety, the safety of others but the security of our nation as well.  However being young children I can see them doing something silly like this and I would respect detention or a phone call from the school wich would allow me to handle their discipline myself.  But god help an officer that showed up at my door to try and take one of my boys to jail for drawing a picture.

These are the exact words that came to my head while watching the video.

While I agree as to the ridiculousness of the situation and the cops should never have arrested this kid. Rather, his parents should have been contacted and they could have addressed why he drew what he drew and taken in from there.

The other issue I have is, in this day and age of school shootings, whose to say this kid wasn't the next one? I'm just saying if this had been let go like nothing happened and next week he came and blew away 'your' kid, how would you feel then?
