Keep as purchased or paint?  Got some today from PJ Army Navy and they have stickers and marker etc.

I paint them Od for ammo and tan for mags.
I also spray a white rectangle on the lid and side (2"x3") to mark the contents. (flat paint holds up better)

Depends. What are you going to use them for?

Since mine never leave the house, I just clean them up and don't bother painting unless they need it for rust prevention.

just went to pj army navy after going to the range and bought some too. i  only painted the inside to stop some surface rust but the outside looked ok
