Speachless......
I understand the gun laws in New York are strict as hell, but for an immature, irresponsible 14 year old to receive a rifle as a birthday present is beyond me.  No matter how educated or perfect this child was raised, it means squat.  Kids at that age live off emotional tantrums and careless "on the spot" decisions.  Sad thing that happened.  People should learn from this.
That's horrible not sure what to say.  Btekk is right.
Wow, that is awful
This is odd to say the least :( Abuse?
A terrible tragedy but there is more to this story than they know right now...A 14 y/o dosen't wipe out his family for no reason at all
Mental illness ? sexual abuse ? beatings ? drug abuse ? etc
Well, that sucks.
Maybe his father should be questioned.  Why didn't the boy live with his father?

The gentleman interviewed suspected nothing, (at least those close to the AZ shooter clearly saw that he was "off") which leads me to suspect sexual abuse, most often the least reported of all types of abuse due to the secrecy and shame surrounding it. I agree w/RoadKing, there's probably much more to this story.

Didn't see the video.(won't work on iPhone) I am sure it is tragic. Will check it out later. That being said I or We bought our son a 10/22 for his 13th birthday. Age has nothing or more importantly everything to do with it. Raise your children to respect firearms and know right from wrong.
While this is a horrible shame I agrer that its not about age but maturity. I had my first rifle at ten. It was Dads single shot .22 and I wasnt allowed to touch it without him around but it was my responsibility to care and clean for it and it taught me to respect firearms. This kid wasnt mentally stable enough for a rifle...

It also shows that a 22 is just as deadly as any other gun.

Actually its the twin of one we have,we had 3 but 1 died when the crane fell on our apartment in Manhattan so now we have 2 apbt's...great to have other apbt parents on the site ))
Hw shot them all in the face, he meant it. Your're right though, there has to be much more to it than we know right now.
Kid had to be on some sort of mind altering medication.
His lawyer said he was cleaning the gun when it accidentally went off.
