I've been reading some articles that say melonite is superior to chrome, but if thats the case, why arent most barrels melonite coated than? Anyone have any experience with this? Should I steer clear of a melonite treated barrel?
I've heard of people having this treatment done with chromoly barrels and I was wondering if anyone here has had it done before (locally if at all possible) and what the cost was? Any other information you can come up with would be greatly appreciated.
Sorry for the dumb questions, but this is the first time I am building an upper from scratch, and too many options only start to confuse me. What's the difference between melonite and stainless steel gas tubes? Is one preferable to the other?
