Quick and easy version..... A guy I work with insists that active LEO's in NYS must register any assault weapons. I argue that they can legally own them with out registering as long as they are active LEO. Registration would come into play once LEO is retired.

I've been considering applying for Nassau County police exam in maybe 3 or 4 years. I'm planning on military reserve service as well, so I wanted to know if anyone can explain the minimum score to pass the exam and how much military service can benefit me in getting the job.

This has probably been discussed before but i couldn't find anything to verify it. If i were to become an LEO in NY, then purchase a rifle classified as an "assault weapon", would I have to convert the weapon to a NY compliant rifle if I were to retire, or could I legally leave it the way it is?
