We are pleased to notify you of a few campground improvements as well as some changes to our campground policies and reservation rules for
the upcoming 2014 season which will help to improve the overall
camping experience for all.

Electric Upgrades – Southaven will now offer electric at 51 general
campsites as well as in the group camping area. Sites 54-104 in the
general campground will have 30/50 amp service available. Please note
that as with all electric campsites, only trailers, RV’s, motor
homes or pop-ups are permitted. Tent camping is permitted on
non-electric sites only.

Extended Camping Season
– The camping season at Sears Bellows County Park will be extended
through Columbus Day to coincide with the schedule at other County
inland campgrounds. In the past, Sears Bellows has only been open from
Memorial Day through Labor Day.

Cathedral Pines Sites Available Through Reservation System - The ten
electric sites at Cathedral Pines Campground will now be available
through the reservation system. All reservation rules and policies
will apply.

Pooch Passes
– The Parks Department will begin selling Pooch Passes for all dogs
in the 2014 season. The permits will cost $28 per dog and owners must
show their green key card as well as dog’s license and proof of
rabies vaccination. Pooch passes will be required for all dogs that
use the dog parks. Campers whose dogs have pooch pass will not be
required to show dog license and proof of rabies vaccination at

Reservation System and Campground Policy Changes

Reservations: Beginning January 2014, reservations can be made from 7
to 120 days in advance. By changing advance reservations to four
months out rather than the traditional six months, this gives patrons
more time to schedule their vacation plans and it will eliminate
issues we have experienced with cancellations during the past two

No-Shows: If a reservation is not cancelled and the green key
cardholder does not check-in or call the park with an anticipated
arrival date *by 9:00 pm on their reserved check-in date, the patron
will be considered a no-show. Customer will be charged a $45 no-show
fee, plus the $12 non-refundable reservation fee as well as the charge
for the first night of camping*.

Period of Stay: Camping will be limited to seven nights maximum per
stay at all parks. A camper staying four to seven (4-7) nights may not
return to same park for a period of seven (7) nights from the time of
check-out. A camper staying one to three (1-3) nights, may not return
for (2) nights. *Campers will be unable to make two seven (7) night
back-to-back reservations at the same park. In addition, only one
campsite reservation per green key card for the same period of time
will be permitted. Additional guests (more than the occupancy limit)
will need to make a separate reservation using a separate green key
card. *

The reservation system is scheduled to open at 7:00 pm on December
20, 2013 for camping reservations beginning in 2014. Please make sure
that your green key card is valid, not expired and does not have any
holds prior to that date, as the parks department will not be
responsible for any reservations you were unable to book as a result
of an invalid green key card.
If you have any questions regarding these changes, please contact our
office at (631) 854-49494.
Thank you,
Suffolk County Parks Department

Good post,I would like to ad that over the years I have camped at many, many campgrounds across America . Never once did I have a problem getting a site or a list that read like a contract on a house. We were always made welcome, and I want to say we only stay at state and federal campgrounds ,private are to expensive. Make reservations 4 and 6 months in advance? Sold out every site very park?? Hummmmm less golf ourses more camping for LI ???

Dear Park Patron,

Due to the vendor’s unforeseen programming delays, we have been
forced to postpone opening the reservation system for the 2014 camping
season. At this time, we have not been given a date for when we will
be able to re-open the reservation system; however we are in contact
with the vendor to get a strict deadline for the completion of this
project. We will notify you in the coming weeks, when the reservation
system will re-open. We apologize for the delay and any inconvenience
this may cause you. Thank you in advance for your patience in this
