How could you not have expected this with Nassau County's current fiscal crisis? Fees have already gone up for many other County facilities like golf, swimming, etc.
I was anticipating this for the beginning of the year.

You spend $10 in tolls and gas just going up to the Bronx. It's a decent range, and $10 isn't unreasonable.

I went once. at $20/hr for a suffolk resident I will never go back. Range isnt bad, its clean, you can breathe and shoot whatever you want. But $20/hr is a load of crap.

That place burns a hole clean through my digestive tract. In order to enjoy my hobby, I shoot there 3-4 times per year with my cousin who is a Nassau resident. Without fail, every time, I say the same thing. "this is the last time I am coming back here." But I still do. It is MY OPINION that the employees there wish the plague upon the customers. I remember last summer when it was 99 degrees out I went there to shoot and while waiting on a long line, the HOT air from the office was blowing in my face from the portable ac unit tube. I cant say in nice terms what I wanted to do. If you look, it is still there, waiting for next summer. And the meatball who told me that I could not use my cell phone in the lobby OUTSIDE of the actual range because it could distract the shooters. If the shooters are looking at me, and are distracted, I do believe they are shooting the wrong way.

It's a decent place if you are a Nassau resident, have the lesiure pass and have limited windows of opportunity to shoot. It's very convienent. If you're a suffolk resident, calverton and brookhaven et al are much closer. Are their rules kind of dumb sometimes, yep. But for $10 an hour it works. Cost / Benefit analysis is different for everyone given their circumstances.

These comments are priceless... Lets just close this place up so we have NO public ranges in Nassau... Smh

And before you make comments criticizing the employees, take two seconds to think that maybe, just maybe the guy who was nice enough to start the thread works there

Thank you Scott... Keep up the good work!!!

It's still a great deal.

For all you complainers, here's why I don't mind the fees at all

- it is a county facility and paid for largely by tax dollars, not user fees. That's why it's cheaper for residents. $20 is high by indoor range standards, but you are free to be raped on Nassau taxes like I am to get the cheaper price of $10/hour. Or, simply request Suffolk County or Queens to open a comparable facility.

- it would cost me $25 in gas to go to Calverton and back

- good range supervision to keep down the yahoo factor

If you don't like the fee structure or the facility, just go to all the other indoor ranges that allow rifle use on Long Island.

No need to be rude guys...
I personally find their range to be more than adequate for my weekly range trips. I live in Nassau so It was $7 an hour, which is fine by me.
Now it's $10 which is a little steeper, oh well I'm not going to cry about it.
Also, I've never once found the staff to be rude, and they have actually helped me several times with jams.
Thanks for letting us know about the change.

I like Nassau, been shooting there since high school. Would appreciate a longer distance but really it was designed as as pistol range and for kids to shoot air rifle/.22LR in competition.

Calverton is a whole different experience, and lets please get over the "yahoo factor"

Do stupid stuff and you'll get yelled at there too... It's the one place we have left to shoot where you don't have RO's up your butt the whole time.

I disagree. There's a balance to be had everywhere, and while there is some supervision at Calverton, I stopped going in 2005, having been a regular there since the mid-1970's when I was a kid.

I was tired of being muzzle swept, having guns handled during cease fires, someone resuming fire while I was downrange, having my guns picked up and handled without my permission while I was shooting etc. The crowd there leaves a lot to be desired.

The only thing I find strange is the $2 increase for non-residents and the $3 increase for residents?

AFAIC it should have been $4 and $1 considering residents already pay taxes on it
