Anyone out there get denied a Pistol License?

I could be completely wrong, but from research on the internet, etc... The only automatic denials in NYS are for applicants with Felony charges and/or domestic violence charges.

I figured I would help the post out - It has been lonely for 2 years! I am gathering all the information needed to apply soon, but am concerned since I have relocated state to state 3 times in the past few years. I think this will put a big dent in the process if not getting me denied all together - right?

I thought there was a clause about needing to be a NY resident for X amount of years?

You don't need to be a resident for that long... You need 4 references that live in the county your applying for. You need to know your references for a year or more in order to use them. Most people who move here don't know anyone, so they usually need to wait a year or more.

Try to get your all references squared away up front - I brought mine in when I went for the interview. Minimizes the chance of a reference related delay later on.

I didn't get fully denied, my application was "Ejected" due to a questionable character reference.

At first I was told to wait six months and re-apply, but than i received a letter say I had to wait TWO YEARS!?..

I just sent a letter pleading for them to re-consider being that my record is clean and i had no idea that my reference was in any kind of trouble. Only time will tell now, I am upset, but not angry, i couldn't afford a pistol at the moment anyway.

I was originally denied from NH because my license was "restricted". Sent in my Florida and it was accepted. Scooted through on that one

When was this? You have only a limited amount of time to contest it. A lawyer can help. You don't want a denial on your record

It wasn't a Denial, it was an ejection, or so they said, I just sent out the letter this week after speaking with my investigating officer, she said it wasn't her decision it was the Lt. so i took her advice and sent out the letter. I cant afford a lawyer, but like I said, I cant afford a pistol at the moment anyway, so maybe its better to wait the time if they reject it again... for my wallet at least.

Maybe for you wallet but the denial is hard to get over on the future. See if they'll just let you pull it instead if being denied

You'll need to answer to that denial on all future applications. Think about it
