Some towns have town administrative codes that do not allow the firing of gun within town limits.
Most of those have exceptions for certain things, residences not being one of them, except in defense of life, etc

You mean I have to stop firing wax bullets in my basement now
Do you find that the wax leaves a coating? Does Hoppes 9 clean it out?

I think I saw that in The Godfather.

As a teenager back in the late seventies we shot 22s in the basement with cardboard boxes stuff with about 18 inches of newspaper. No problems, we didn't care about lead dust. Adults assume were smart enough not to injure ourselves. No one cared if it was illegal..... The government should know nothing about what goes on in your home. Keep your mouth shut.

I really can’t wait to get the !@@ outta NY, I’ll take my retirement funds to New Hampshire, where I am allowed to carry, not wait 2 years for the government to give me permission to buy a handgun, where my home is my castle, where I can ATV, Jeep, shoot, without fear of arrest. No state tax, not pay $18,000 a year in real estate taxes. There really is no reason to stay here anymore.

Anthony Cumia (of the Opie and Anthony Show, now Compound Media) told stories, when he lived in East Northport, how he and his brother used to shoot their .22s in the basement, and their little sister, Dawn, would yell “Cease Fire, cease fire” when she was walking by with the laundry basket.
