So mine is set to expire beginning of June and I was planning my trip there. I went to their website and saw this:

***ATTENTION***

Effective Monday, March 23, 2020

The Centre County Sheriff’s Office is still issuing License to Carry permits ONLY to Centre County residents at this time. The background check system (PICS) is running slow so we will be sending the permits to you in the mail or you can pick them up at a later date after we take your application. You do still need to come in person to get your application started. We will NOT accept any mailed applications.

Not like I'm planning any trips to PA anyway but I wonder how long this is going to last? It goes on to say residents have to make an appointment. Glad Utah and Florida are mail ins.

yeah. Mine ended in April. I called and was told the renewal is the same as a new application. Told me to let it expire and just file a new application when life goes back to normal.

I got a reply to my e-mail and was told to call in a month and see how things are. And there I was looking forward to a plane trip.

Well made my appointment today. They are booked until the 23rd so I made mine for the 24th. Hopefully the weather will cooperate and I can fly there. I got a time that should be convenient for either driving or flying there although I'm not looking forward to having to drive.

Connecticut is still offering an easy option to renew via mail. If you want to avoid the hassle getting the notary, passport photo and money order. You can drive about 2 hours from the Nassau/Suffolk border to Middletown and pay cash, $70.

So I made the arduous journey to Bellefonte today. Made pretty good time 4:15 going(at 4AM) and 4:45 coming back. Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate for flying there. The door to the building is locked so either you wait till whoever is in there comes out or you can knock/call them. The woman who processes everything wipes down the counter and pens between customers. There were two people waiting when I came out so looks like they are pretty busy. Hopefully next time things will be back to normal and we won't have to make appointments and I can pick a nice weather day to fly there.

Wow, that’s a lot of driving but necessary. I remember people taking trips to Centre County to help keep the cost down when driving.

Flying would be about 5.5 hours but it looks to be a bit more expensive as fuel at the airport is $5.4 a gallon and last time I went there I used 12 gallons. But it's worth it.

Round trip.

If you don't mind my asking, in these day-trip type scenarios how do you get from the airport to your final destination?  Taxi?

Last year I flew to the Bellefonte airport just to see what the trip would be like. Apparently a woman and her son run the airport. The son gassed up my plane and asked why I was there. I explained to him I would have to go see the Sheriff. He said a lot of people fly in to go to the courts and he said in the future if I call the day before they can arrange a ride into town. It's only 3 miles so I guess in a worse case scenario you could walk and get some exercise.

Flying solo next time, fit a mountain bike in the cockpit. That could be an expensive service since they probably get a kickback for that.
