This young spike was playing acting like a mature buck chasing a doe around, I was watching how he was checking the scrape and rubbing it’s head to leave it’s scent. This appears to be a yearling, born in late June or July of last year.

Opening day weekend was excellent hunting. The weather was perfect, actually more shots and deer movement this morning. The DEC was active in my area, they confiscated deer yesterday. Those anonymous tips are keeping them busy.

A doe and a fawn came out and few minutes later I heard the branches breaking as a doe was getting chased by the 5 point buck.
I thought the peak rut was over last week.

Nice shot placement there Boosti

I usually go for a neck shot on deer so I don’t have to track it. This buck came out chasing a doe, the best shot is above the front leg slightly behind to hit the heart breaking the opposite shoulder. This shot was definitely a fatal hit with no exit. The blood trail was heavy, once it entered the woods and crashed.
I went to a .270 Winchester this season because my .300 Winchester Short Magnum is a bit too much recoil for me now since having surgery.

This was a very good season, I am tagged out until Muzzleloader/ Late season. This is the time to hunt the scrape and rub lines. The secondary rut is always around the last weekend of gun and muzzleloader.
