Hello all, just picked up a used S&W 642 the other day. It is a model that has the lock above the cylinder release, I was thinking about doing a lock delete and plugging the hole. Anyone ever done this before? Thanks

The Hillary hole is an eyesore. You could visit the S&W forums. I believe S&W has made a few J frames without that lock after 2001. It's always best to buy any S&W revolver before the introduction of that lock since the quality has diminished.
There is a video on YouTube that shows how to deactivate the lock mechanism. If I remember correctly, the key port stays in the frame so there is no hole to plug. FWIW I have had a 642 Airweight for several years and fired a bunch of ammo in it with no issues from the lock. I simply ignore it. Also I replaced the factory grip with a Hogue grip that completely covers the frame. It actually made my range trips fun. Also because the grip is bigger than the stock grip it alters my trigger finger placement to a better position and though the trigger pull weight is the same, it feels like less. If you opt for the Hogue or any aftermarket grip, remember the 642 Airweight frame is the "Millennium" frame. I can still carry the 642 in a pocket holster with the Hogue grip in my front jeans pocket and it barely prints and certainly not enough that someone other than another gun person would notice it.
