Gov. Andrew Cuomo has agreed to suspend plans for background checks for ammunition sales in New York and allow internet sales of ammunition, changing part of the NY Safe Act, according to state Sen. James Seward.

He may have "agreed to" but there is no mention of the internet sales ban mentioned in the MOU.

Well there is a ton of arguments on this subject on here and other ny gun sites. It looks to be legal for now. It is hard to get a definitive answer from the State Police.

They suspended the background checks, which wouldn't go into effect until the database was in place anyway. I don't think they ever officially repealed or suspended the direct online ammo sales restrictions.
I think the way the law is written, it is not against the law to BUY ammo online without an FFL/Registered Seller of Ammo. The restriction seem to be on the seller, not the buyer. I am guessing some out of state, online sellers may have figured out that NYS has no mechanism for punishing them for shipping to doorsteps in NYS and they buyers can't be charged with anything, since the law targets sellers, not purchasers. Just speculating, of course.
The whole law is ridiculous to start with, but keeping the ban on online sales, with the background check part gone is even more illogical.
If I buy 500, 1,000 or 100,000 rounds of ammo online, at least there is a pretty solid paper trail, between cc records, sales records and shipping documents. If I walk into a LGS and buy the same ammo, with cash, there is no record of who I am at all. So barring direct to doorstep online sales is actually counterproductive to their nefarious objective of tracking who is buying what.

seems like 30 cents a round for 5.56 (if you buy a case) is a good price nowadays, higher for the usually more expensive, less for steel cased.
