I'm sure that Mike (Montauk Highway, Copaigue) will steer me right, but to look less ignorant, just what am I doing with the registration and license plate on my old one ? Can he (or I ) simply go to DMV and switch the plate to the new trailer or do I get a new reggie and plate and turn in the old stuff myself ? I don't really care that much about the 5 months credit, not with what these trailers cost, but just wondered what options I have, if any, in the paperwork nonsense that this godawful state requires.

Then you can just put the plates on the new trailer and tow it home. In the old days you could just put the plate on and drive home then do the paperwork later. Not any more.

With a new trailer and the old plate on, with trailer lights working and the way I drive (old fart here), its not like I am going to be pulled over, which hasn't happened since 1975 excepting some speeding I did in a GOV while working, lol.

Same here- What the Hell?I replied 2 times to this thread. Both posts vanished.......
I said go to DMV with your certificate of origin and register the trailer, checking the box that you have a plate. You are transferring the registration (if current) or registering the trailer first time with your old plate
