Official introduction i guess. Im mike, mechanic from Brooklyn. Ive been into blades & weapons for as long as i can remember, never owned a rifle but Ive shot a few. Also had a few paintball markers & pellet rifles, 3 pumps (sub 1000 fps) and a 1200 fps springer
Im looking to build a budget AR pattern rifle that I can take to a LI range & not have any trouble with the RO's concerning "Safe". What I know (or have heard) is if the receiver is marked AR 15 then it's a no go unless its registered. Also if its a semi then there's 1 of 2 options. Either fixed mag or featureless. I plan on building a single shot with a standard upper. Ditch the gas tube & either weld the gas block shut or thread it for a set screw & call it done
With the SA's interactive tool, if its a single shot Im fine & shouldn't have to worry but this is NY so I want to be sure before I buy
Im not trying to break any laws, just skirt them a little. Featureless doesn't appeal to me at all and a pinned/fixed mag, also not my cup of tea.
I'll detail the build plans in a separate post, I think you all have read enough for one post, thanks for reading/listening & hopefully I'll be up & running soon

Un-Safe does not apply to bolt action rifles as long as they meet minimum length.
Look into 223 scout rifles.

You need to look into NYC laws in addition to SAFE act. I don't really know much about NYC laws so I can't help you. I am pretty sure no AR or magazines above 5 rounds, double check. Look into the Ares ACR.
