A coworker of mine has asked me for advice - his father passed away about a month ago and clearing out his home he found a box of 38spl ammo. He does not have a pistol permit ( I assume his father did but? ) so is he allowed to have this ammo - sell it or give it away or call the cops? I do not have a permit either so didn't know.

he is allowed to have it. no reason not to be able to

there are rifles that can chamber handgun rounds like the 38 special.

i would be happy to take it off his hands

no law against him having the ammo. There are rifles that shoot it so essentially he should be picking up a Rossi in 357 mag in tribute.

What happened to the old man's revolver? Check the sock drawer for a minty 70's Python.

Just so your friend is aware, the ammo is legal to own but not very valuable, except perhaps sentimentally. If he has dad's gun the legality issue would be another story.

If your friend wants I can come over and search for a firearm. Just in case one is found everyone should wait outside the home until I can make sure the home is safe.

I just got a visit from troop l.

They say you must give it to me and I must sell it back to you for it to be legal.

I just got a visit from troop F and they said you have to give it to me first then buy it from me to sell back to him but only on the 5th Friday of the 2nd mouth. So this might take a little time. He should just get a pistol license it might be cheaper and quicker.
