Come think of it, you can't have a pistol grip unless you jump through hoops.
An SKS doesn't come with a pistol grip, and if it doesn't have a muzzle brake then you're good to go in this godforsaken state.

As long as the original fixed magazine is in place, the SKS can have all the evil features it wants (so long as it also satisfies 922R).You can't make an AK out of SKS.

Out of all the imported coverted pistol grip AKMs in the US the Saiga is the most popular for it's quality and Russian authenticity.
This is a Saiga converted by Dinzag Arms:

Because we can't pistol grip convert Saigas here due to the SAFE act, we can only do sporter style modifications, some that have that AK-style. The SKS is a completely different platform, that approach makes no sense when you already have a rifle that contains the most important guts of an AK; the receiver and barrel. The rest is just window dressing. You basically already have an AK out of the box, minus some details and features.
