Ordered many things from them over the years online. Always a good company to do business with and prices have been good. Hope they take much business away from Dick's.

I have been in a Bass Pro shop in Tenn. or some place like that, They had a pistol display with every gun every manufacture had . The same holds true for their long gun selection. I my opinion I think they have a better firearms display than Cabelas.

Clerk: "Welcome to Long Island Bass shop, how can I help you?"
Shopper: "Where is the gun section?"
Clerk: "Take the elevator to the sub-basement, walk all the way past the trash compactor room and there is an unmarked door at the left. Knock three times and have two forms of ID available and they will let you in."
Shopper: "Cool... and then I can look at the guns there?"
Clerk: "Oh no, we don't carry any guns in the shop. However, we will let you look at them in our catalog."

Douglas Adams said it best, with a little tweaking...
  • "But the plans [guns] were on display . . ."
"On display? I eventually had to go down to the cellar to find them."
    "That's the display [gun] department."
    "With a torch."
"Ah, well the lights had probably gone."
    "So had the stairs."
"But look, you found the notice [guns], didn't you?"
"Yes," said Arthur, "yes I did. It was on display in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying Beware of the Leopard."

By the time the store is completed they won't be able to sell anything firearms related.

Sorry for the negative attitude

No need to apologize. Cuomo and the imbecilic residents of new york peed in all of our cheerios this morning/last night. We have a right to be negative and po'd.

I do not mind Bass Pro, but like many others I prefer Cabela's. I can rack up lots of points in a month if given the opportunity :)

By the time the permits are in place and its built I will be looking for property in a free state or be there already and I do not plan on looking for about 5-7 years When Wang wanted to build retail and apartments, sporting venue it took years for him to say fu , beware of the nimby's would be nice though. Imagine the size raid Rice would have there.

Is this April 1st? I find this hard to believe.

Wait..."Old Spice is one of the 10 hottest brands"

Now I'm even more confused.

This is good news. The obvious is good news for us with a big box sportsman's store opening in our back door and not in Pennsylvania or another free state. I have been to a Bass Pro Shop in Texas and they are huge.

The other good news is the cultural impact. Don't forget that firearms have been a part of life for people in many states, just not New York. How many people do you know that grew up in the South or West, just don't get New York's aversion to firearms? They are considered evil here from the clueless population. A Texan will say, "let me see that gun!" A New Yorker will say "what makes you feel you need a gun?"

Anytime we have the opportunity to add a destination location such as Bass Pro where firearms and hunting are prominently featured, it helps "normalize" the presence of firearms to those that would naturally ask, "why do you need a gun." Changing culture takes time. Anytime firearms are featured and shown in everyday life, only helps in acceptance from those that have never used or owned a firearm.

But Uniondale? You might have to buy a gun just to get outta there safe and sound... or at least that is what the wife will hear.

And Riverhead? I can't see two giant destination stores behind enemy lines.

Which store in Riverhead? Cabela's or Bass Pro? At least it will be in a REPUBLICAN county.

true, but some of the mom and pop shops deserve to fade away. As for BPS vs. Cabelas, I have shopped online from both and have spent probably half a dozen trips each over the years to the Cabelas in Hamburg PA and to the BPS near Baltimore. Although that BPS didn't have the aquarium and museum quality mountings like C in Hamburg, it had everything else I was looking for, be it ammo, boating supplies or surfcasting lures. IMHO, I don't think BPS would bother coming to LI if they could not sell firearms and ammo.

Lololol.....ahhh.....it's OK though..they only have 7 rounds to hit us with. Pretty soon new yorkers will have to set there sleeves on fire to posses a fire arm...

Does this mean they will not be opening a store in Bridgeport, CT? That deal has been in the works for a while but I cant see a destination store like Bass Pro building two locations within 50 miles of each other. hmmm

Love it... they'll sell guns alright ... whatever we can have they'll sell.... it makes no difference if they make money either... no better place than that right in the middle of Long Island.. it's a presences and a thumb in the eye to the antis and peta crowd.... kinda like building a mosque at ground zero... makes a statement.... and may bring some converts as well.
