In general, how much is "adequate" for a pistol owner to know about his/her gun? Besides how to take down, reassemble, normal operation of the gun, how to clean and lubricate of course. How much more "should" I know about my pistol? How to clean (includes disassenble and reassemble the) firing pin or firing control portion? Or complete disassembly and reassembly? Thanks.

Hi everybody, I have a hypothetical question. I know that with a premises license, I can use deadly force to defend only if someone is physically in my house and my life is threatened. What about if someone open fires at me or throw grenade or torches into my house from a distance? Again, just hypothetically

Hi everybody. I am interested in getting a pump shotgun. Since it's not an AW, not too many things need to be considered, I guess. I am just wondering, is there a round limitation in NYC? I thought I saw it somewhere. Thanks.

NYPD still making house calls

I am currently living in California but at about 7pm Est I got a panicked call from my 75 year old mother. Two NYPD detectives were at my apartment looking for me and a Mossburg pump action shotgun I purchased in 2003. I told her to calm down and put one on the phone with me. He was very polite and explained that they had a record of my purchase from a Nassau County Gun store and needed to know if the gun was stored in NYC. I explained to them that I keep the gun at my brother in laws house in Nassau and basically he owns it I have never used it. My brother in law is an avid hunter and has a gun safe in the house. They asked me if I would mind giving his name & town which I did, I offered to get them a certificate of ownership or whatever they said it wasn't necesarry and said they didnt want to waste mine or my mothers time.

Now obviously all my mother heard was my name and gun she was pretty worked up but I calmed her down. I did a few searches and found this forum and saw that I wasn't the only person who had this happen and although I realize why it is BS it makes me feel better that it wasn't only me. My mom said that they were polite and seemed satisfied they didnt leave a card or anything so I assume its over with. I have not changed my drivers license yet so I may have avoided the hassle had I not been listed in the NYS DMV database.

Anybody got a pistol permit recently from NYC? How long did it take? Thanks. I am thinking of a Remington 870 express synthetic 18" now Curiously, the assault weapon ban page on the application did not mention any restriction on capacity (5 round or more). Probably I should ask them.
