I have heard that it is illegal to touch a hand gun in Suffolk Country without a pistol license. I have been required to put my pistol license on the counter when handling one. Is this a New York State law? Or maybe a Suffolk County law?

I am curious as to what the actual law is, and where this is the law.

What are your thoughts on using a reference from out of state? A family friend I would like to use grew up and lived in Suffolk all his life and has known me and my family for many years. His father was a sergeant with the SCPD until his recent retirement. My dilemma is that he moved to SC a couple years ago and I'm not sure if the bureau frowns upon out of state references, regardless of the fact that the wording on the application allows it. What does the hive-mind have to say about this?

They mandated that my wife change to her married name and would not accept her application with he maiden name even though she has her passport and other legal ID! Suffolk hasn't not allow duel ownership on hand guns for a long time. so I don't see there point on this one.
