Just filled up. Trick is to get out there early and get gas. Something woke me up at 520am this morning and told me to call the gas station since it was 24hrs. Turns out they had gas but were not open yet. So I got down there and on the line of about 40 cars. They opened at 6am and I was all fueled up by 630am. And I have the next four days of work off so this should put me out of this crisis a bit.

Gas stations in Manhattan are starting to get their supply. But some are limiting how many gallons you get. I think it will be back to normal in 3-4 days. If you can hold off for a couple days that might be your best bet.
Hess has an online listing of inventory. Cant paste. Am on a boat right now. Marina got delivery this am and everyone was filling up boats and cans. Left an hour late because did not want to miss the opportunity.
I'm reading that things should start improving Sunday/Monday with the reopening of facilities in Jersey and Pt. Jefferson that are key in getting gas to NYC and Long Island.
I drove down Hicksville Road. One station is out, the other station has a line almost to the parkway. Im glad I have gas coming in from upstate.Southern grab gas while you are up there, it'll at least hold you over 4-5 days hopefully.
Things should be returning to normal by monday. Barges that have been waiting to port since 10/28 have begun offloading, transfer station are operational again, and the Obama administration purchased 12 million gallons of unleaded and 10 million gallons of diesel for distribution in affected areas.
Craziness in north valley stream last night. Walked out of my house at about 9:30 last night after getting a lead from a neighbor on a gas station that just opened.
As I walk out of the house, I hear shots fired. I turn on the scanner and sure enough I hear the Hess on Rt 24 has multiple calls of shots fired and a white minivan leaving the scene. I got a block from my house and the white minivan comes flying past on meachum ave. 2 seconds later about a street away he was surrounded by multiple rmp's. There certainly is some craziness out there.
I got to the gas station and was luck enough to be one of the first people in the gas can line. Within minutes there were lines out of this station as far as the eye could see and people fighting for who had position first. Apparently my neighbors friend owns the station and he was directing traffic. He asked if I would help, so I did. I saw some of the crappiest behavior displayed by adults. And the women seemed to be the worst of them.
I came out of the smoke shop across the street from the Mobil on the corner of Rt. 112 and 25 this morning. The line was long. When seven Post office vehicles showed up and cut the line (with a police escort ).
Needless to say people weren't happy.
I went out this morning to pick up some milk and take a look at what's going on. Every Gas Station in the area (Port Jeff) has lines so long I couldn't even count the number of vehicles on them.
Now here's the best part....their all lined up at stations that have NO gas.
Everyone is just waiting for a delivery. Not even sure if one will be coming but their waiting.
This is worse then the 70's. Back then you waited on a line but got gas. Now there's just no gas.
Hopefully this will only last a few more days. My guess is that even after gas starts flowing again it will take people some time to relax. You'll see most pulling into stations with 3/4 of a tank fearing they won't get any if they wait.
It will take some time for things to get back to normal but they will. Eventually!

EXACTLY I guarantee you that the vast majority of these people are just topping off their tanks due to the media inciting fear. If the media would STFU this problem would go away and the gas stations would be back to normal by Monday night.
This was yesterday- and here's the rub- this station has NO GAS. Got to the line to try to fill some cans for another member, ended up siphoning out of my truck instead, thankfully his power came back on late last night.
I am sure glad I filled my truck up before the storm. It is sad to see- well hear about the breakdown of our society. Katrina and New Orleans was much worse but if this keeps going downhill and people don't start looking ahead at the big picture we will have utter chaos. I am armed but a long gun isn't easy to conceal when going out. I wish I had my handgun permit. I have bear spray and a multitool for basic defense.
I completely agree with the fact that the media caused this problem. Yes people would eventually need to get gas, but if these LONG lines and all of the fighting didn't start until after I happened to read an article in Newsday stating that Long Island will run out of gas. This caused panic, and everyone running generators and those that needed to get to work all went running to the gas stations. If they kept their mouths shut, people would be going to get gas as needed and I don't think it would be nearly as bad as it is right now. Especially since there is a lot of gas on the way.
"Frankenstorm" dident wipe Long Island off the map so they had to invent another crisis to keep the ratings high. The media is fueling this absurd frenzy. Cut it out. 2/3 of the people are just topping off their tanks preventing those who actually are out of gas for their cars and generators from getting gas.
I guarantee you people are going to start hijacking gas trucks ...
But how will they drive to Starbucks to get their mocha crappuccinos???
