NY is the ONLY State you have no constitutional right to own a handgun and must jump over all hurdles the State mandates you jump over successfully passing before it may grant you your inherited right. No other State do you need to ask permission of the State to have a handgun. In most States, you walk into gun shop, purchase handgun, fill out ATF form, once cleared, leave store go to the range, shoot your handgun, go home, your done, a couple of States you need a doc. or card from Gov't agency. But that it in a nutshell

Once you leave Suffolk, pack your firearms up, and leave. I'd hang onto NY license til it close to expiration, than mail it back, encase you have to return to NY. JMHO
