Beautiful guns Destro.

Hoping one day I'll have my own CMP Garand.

Those M1's from the Philippines are promising, even if they are in rough shape.

Beautiful guns Destro.

Hoping one day I'll have my own CMP Garand.

I suggest a greater sense of urgency. The CMP is running out of Garands. The pickin's are a fraction of what they were just 5 years ago. 5 or 6 years ago, hardly anything on their M1 Garand page was sold out. Now, even the Drill grades are gone!! Those are made from junk parts.

Hopefully, they'll soon get a shipment from Philippines and another 86,000 M1 carbines from Korea. But even that isn't very many rifles. And who knows what condition they are. If you've always planned to get one and haven't yet, monitor this page at least once a week and be ready to move on it.

Your rifles are beautiful. Good luck with them.  I have one of my own that I got from CMP 2 years ago.  I l also have an M1 Carbine that briefly came available via CMP a year ago.

Question - Why isn't the M1 Garand classified as a curio AR since it has a bayonet lug?  My guess is that the En Bloc isn't considered a "detachable magazine" in the strictest sense.

Anyone?

Thanks, The higher CMP grades do not disappoint. Very happy with the process.

It is not an AW because it does not have a detachable mag. Any clip (or En Bloc) fed fixed mag rifle (like for instance the SKS) is also exempt. Many who have made fixed mag battle rifles (NY FAL, etc.) have used stripper clips.

The special grades are sold out on the CMP site, btw, but if you're in the order system they will email you with any updates. They told me they had a few special grades I could update to, and after waiting a over a month on the field grade specials, gladly took them up on it. They really are striking.

Here's a side by side of the 50s 6 million SN service grade (left) next to the 40s 2.5M SN special grade.

So then why hasn't anyone taken advantage of this with regard to banned NY rifles.

For example, build an AR with all the scary features desired.

Then, add a specially designed  permanently affixed 10 round magazine with an open bottom.  The open bottom 10 round magazine can accept a clip roughly similar to the En-bloc.  Something that holds the round together.  After the 10th. round is fired, the clip is pushed out either partially or fully, thereby allowing for the next full clip to be inserted once the gun is clear of the empty clip.

?? They have. DSI a sponsor on here has a huge business doing fixed magazine AR-15s, they have a huge store on LI due to this booming business. Others have as well.

https://www.dark-sto...xed-mag-rifles/

Campsite sells fixed mag AK variants and fixed magazine Springfield M1As with scary features.

https://www.campsite...y-compliant.asp

There is a big market for fixed mag NY compliant rifles. They are not open bottom, however they all use a stripper clip top feed basis (just as you would load an SKS). The open bottom on an actual mag would be a slippier slope I suppose, though designs differ (as do opinions what is most compliant). Jerry's Firearms in Bohemia also sells a mag lock to make ARs fixed mag and allow you to have all the scary features. They also sell fixed magazine AR rifles with all the features.

Here is a fixed mag AR, can use all the evil features, any flashhider, collapsable stock, grip etc. Many of us add a fixed mag variant to the collection so we can test out muzzle brakes, collapsable stocks etc.
