Beware driving through Jamaica estates this morning. The mobile speed camera is parked on E/B Union take at 183 street. Nondescript unmarked minivan with speed sensor on the roof.

True story. They had one in front of Plainedge Middle School on Stewart Avenue in Bethpage for a few days about a year and a half ago. It's a 4 lane road. The speed limit drops to 20 mph. The next time you're on a road that wide, drop it down to 20 mph and see how bizarre that is. I have 3 kids aged 9,12 and 15 so I get it. You shouldn't be speeding in front of a school. I'm not advocating speeding. I'm saying that 20 mph is ridiculous. They don't give a crap about the kids. They put it where they could make the most money. People complained and they squashed the tickets. Had nothing to do with the safety of children. The County was after a big payday.

The car, by law, can only be planted on a school block, during school hours. It moves around daily. look for the electronics on the top. They have some city worker sit in it drinking coffee and reading the paper, i guess so the car dont get vandalized. They always put a traffic cone in the street near the drivers door, and you can spot them if you are really keeping an eye out.  The top of the vehicle has a speed sensor and a roof mounted strobe light. The dashboard has a bracket mounted camera, triggered by the speed sensor. when you pass the vehicle going over the set speed, the system signals the flash and the camera to get you. Those white cylinder looking things on the roof are the GPS locating system.

The revolt in Nassau that got them taken out made me think that democracy was not totally dead yet . . . If only those people would get upset about the real things that are wrong in this overtaxed hellhole they would have realized those photo radar tickets were small change.

Here are shots of one of the other cars i took last year. I got out and walked right up to the car to take the photos. the guy put his coffee down and immediately locked his door. he probably thought i was going to rip him out of the car for nailing my car.

The tickets were never squashed. The cameras were removed after large protests, mainly fuel by a facebook group that is still active and is now trying to do something about the red light scameras. Whoever thinks the "liberals" got them taken down is out of their mind. I personally addressed the County legislature and called out Judy Jacobs for her statement that "If you got a ticket you must be guilty".

Clearly the same mindset liberals apply to gun owners.

In other states the speed cameras have been ruled unconstitutional unless signs are visibly displayed notifying the motorist of the camera.

Why are the license plates blurred.

If you look at the second image, the plate is crystal clear. The fourth image is blurry overall.

The only good news here is that this is a City of New York vehicle.

Regarding red light cameras, Nassau county has signs in front of all the intersections with cameras, but NYC doesnt.
