According to Fox News, the

Keystone pipeline won't use US steel despite Trump pledge

The Keystone XL oil pipeline won't use American steel in its construction, despite what President Donald Trump says.

White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Friday that's due to language in a presidential directive Trump issued in January.

"The way that executive order is written, it’s specific to new pipelines or those that are being repaired, Sanders said. "And since this one is already currently under construction, the steel is already literally sitting there, it would be hard to go back. But I know that everything moving forward would fall under that executive order."

The directive applies to new pipelines or those under repair. Sanders said it would be hard to do an about-face on Keystone because it's already under construction and the steel has been acquired.

Trump said as recently as last week that Keystone and the Dakota Access pipeline must use American steel "or we're not building one."

The reason is such B.S.  He said they cant do it because of the way the Executive Order was written. Its not Obama's order, it's his. Its his fault if he "can't" do it, because his minions wrote the order. If they wrote it wrong, they can fix it.

He could just issue another order revising the first one, like he did for his immigration plan.

Slowly but surely, he is going back on every campaign pledge. Many are saying now "I told you so". This is another disappointment.

Lets wait and see what his excuse will be why he cant pass any 2A friendly laws.

Seriously, this crap belongs on Huffington Post, not in here...this douche nugget is constantly trolling for the libtards, it's non-stop verbal diarrhea propaganda, enough already! Completely ignored the explanation and is only presenting half the story, and inserted his opinion in the same text as the actual article, lying troll.

Whatever amount of steel is already in place to be used has to be used. You don't add further cost to the project by scraping the steel that was already purchased and is on site to be used. Anything over and above that should be U.S. steel.

Wherever it belongs, its from Fox News. whats your problem with them?

and as always my opinion is separated from the story by using italicized font for the quoted story text. I even used a different font for my opinion. is it your position that we cant comment on news stories we post? Is this board just a place to copy and paste news stories that are interesting, with no comment of our own? most others likely dont see it that way.

i didnt ignore the explanation. he specifically mentioned the keystone pipeline when he gave the requirement for using US steel. did he not know that we had some pipe for that job already? i remember thinking that when i heard his first announcement. why didnt he or his people realize that? They probably knew it but thought that most low information news consumers wouldnt know the difference. this way everyone would brag about how he is helping the US steel industry, when we know it isnt so. its another con on the public. your refusal to see it is amazing.

It is known that he made alot of money on projects over the years by ordering materials then not paying for them. why should this be any different? it never stopped him before. I am using extra large font for the following quote from a magazine so Banzai doesnt think i am editorializing in the story.

Special Report: Trump's art of the deal - Dispute your bills

The billionaire front-runner to be the Republican candidate in the U.S. presidential race says he sometimes refuses to pay bills from contractors he has hired and then forces them to negotiate the final figure down.

"I've had many people that when they work for me they get very rich," Trump said in an interview with Reuters, but, "sometimes I renegotiate." Adding: "I'll do that with probably 10 or 15 percent of contractors."

The strategy has left some small business owners who have done jobs for him over three decades of real estate deals saying they have felt cheated and don't want to ever work for him again. In a number of cases they have also faced big legal bills from subsequent court action.

Trump fought on a grander scale with the individual contractors who built his Atlantic City Casino, the Trump Taj Mahal, in 1990.

The hotel was finished just before a recession brought Trump to the edge of financial ruin. He would eventually take the Taj Mahal into bankruptcy. But first he asked to pay the contractors 30 cents on the dollar, according to Charles Sperry, the president of Baring Industries, which had a multi-million dollar contract to provide kitchen equipment like stoves, walk-in freezers and countertops.

"It's not that common to just come back and unilaterally start slicing off the big percentages of contracts and saying 'we'll settle out for this, you can take it or leave it,'" Sperry said.

The contractors joined together and sent representatives of the group to negotiate with Trump, according to Sperry. He said they eventually received 90 percent of what they were owed. Sperry said it was just enough to cover expenses and pay workers, but not enough to realize a profit for Baring's work.

Trump didn't renegotiation contracts to INCREASE his cost. He renegotiated contracts to decrease his cost. Scraping steel that has already been purchase to buy more steel increases cost to the builders and those cost will ultimately be passed down in some way to consumers. Trump now represents the American people. He has made our interest his increase including bringing down the cost of projects like the F-35, new Air Force One and this pipeline.

Trump didn't renegotiation contracts to INCREASE his cost. He renegotiated contracts to decrease his cost.

And therefore there is no way we will see American steel on any of those pipelines. It was just more pie in the sky promises that he had no intention to make good on.

It is a gun site. And what kind of president we have affects our particular interest more than most folks. Does his actions affect swimmers, golfers, runners, etc...? His actions affect shooters, so what he does is of particular interest to us.

I honestly don't give a shit anymore.  As I am concerned they can order new steel for the pipe as long as the old steel is filled with as many liberals/democrats/America haters as possible and buried.  I now officially hate all liberals, all democrats, these worthless useless witless America haters and they can all just FOAD.

Sorry, just tired of the nonsense now, the country has real problems and these assorted pieces of shit just can't get over themselves.  They said effing boo during eight years of President POS and now, magically they care about this thing call the Constitution, fact checking.  They. Can. All. Effing.  Choke. And. Die.  All of them, the only bad thing is stepping over the corpses and getting some gunk on my boots.

The pipeline is 90% completed so whether it used U.S. steel or not the remaining section of pipeline has already been completed. Beyond that the executive order doesn't say anything about where the steel is produced so I'm not sure how the executive order and the issue of where the steel is manufactured got lumped together.

That said Trump never promised that the Dakota pipeline WOULD be made with U.S. steel. In fact he said you would be disappointed if you knew where the steel came from. When he was talking about using U.S. steel he was talking about future pipeline projects saying "if people want to build pipelines on our land we want the pipe manufactured...here".

So there was no promise to use U.S. steel on the Dakota pipeline.

Exactly, the bs with this has been going on for so long, that the materials were accumulated and sitting there, scrapping the existing supply of pipeline would be pointless.
