The Rut has started in my area in Sullivan County. I found a scrape on Saturday by my usual hunting spot. On Halloween I found this nice rub on a Locust Tree about 30 yards from the scrape. I believe the full rut will be this weekend.

Sad to say this is the least excited I've been for hunting in years.

I lost my aunt and uncle in October and was very sad to experience that grief and suffering in a matter of just two weeks apart.
I am blessed to be able to hunt, hike and shoot on my land which is always a reason to be thankful. Always be positive!

Just been in a funk for awhile didn't get to prep the stands or clear lanes but my son is coming up for the second time so I'll get to spend time with him with no other BS going on. So I'm blessed that way. we where planing on going up early to trap some coyotes but work kept that from happening.

It was a beautiful hunt this morning. Seen three bucks, all shooters out of range. They are in rut mode.

Seen a few bucks that I passed up. The ground blind is great for having deer come in close.

As we get closer to opening day, practice with your equipment. Have the correct type of ammunition that will humanely kill a deer or Bear.
Best of luck to everyone going this Saturday upstate for opening day.

I was up for the opening week for cross bow Sunday to Friday with my son : He did good missed a huge doe at 50 yards ,he got busted by a huge 6 pointer on the ground also seen about 6 does in the woods.

I my self passed a nice bear maybe 400 lbs or better 30 yards from the tree stand and let a nice doe walk at 7:45 Am other then that not much much movement on the deer part.

I am going to try 4F for opening day we have 2 doe tags we will like to fill

Got out a few times in Otsego County, saw nothing on all 3 days.  First weekend way too warm, raining, last weekend was good but no deer to be seen.  Did hear coyotes on next hill, 3 or 4 of them yelping around, both days.  I have to work this weekend, so much for gun season start.

Well we got over a foot of snow on the mountain in Hancock seem all the hunters left the mountain Sunday afternoon.

I been hunting mid day from my closed in stand but blowing winds  are keeping deer bed down not much movement .I was heading to the stand yesterday around 3 pm seen a few tracks in the snow again nothing was really moving.I went in today around 1 pm seen a few more set of tracks one set passed the stand with in 30 yards.I will say hunting from a closed inn stand I built during the summer is really nice @ using mister Heater is a life saver .

It was fun driving up the power lines but it was extremely difficult sitting in a tree stand. Not one shot heard today. Hopefully Tuesday the deer move.

One of the guys in camp shot a big doe at 640 not even 5 minutes in his stand. he didn't even get settled in when he shot the deer.

we didn't hear any other shoot there only to other camps left up here one is for hard core deer men and they are up ever year till they tag out and they do every year.

Opening day at around 7:00 am I was able to harvest a big 8 pt buck at about 30 yards from my tree stand. It was a warm opening day in the mid 60's and by the end of the day the temps fell 30 degrees. the next two days were all snow, blizzard conditions, and temps in the 20's. I'm glad the good lord blessed me with this big critter on opening day.

Nice Buck Congrat:

I went out to day around 9am stayed until 11:am nothing moving I should of went low instead of high on the mountain top,we must have 15" plus had a little problem trying to cut a new trail with the quad snow was to high the Honda 2001 foreman 450 ES  with super grabbers was slipping .I could of puhsed it but being I am hunting solo no need to get into trouble .

I think this evening going to stay low at the bottom of the mountain.

I yet to see a legal 3 pointer on one side here in hancock I know there is a 8 and a 6 I seen in cross bow and no one has taken any  thing to talk about. :fie
