Was in a couple of tackle shops in the last week and they are saying the bait is in earlier and heavier than in years past.

Chasing Tails in Oakdale says he is packing spearing already. A lot earlier than usual.

I saw a report by Fred Golafaro of The Fisherman. He saw some action in the creek by his house. He tossed a plug or whatever he had and caught an 18 inch striper.

Lots of striper reports from west to east. Lots of bait around.

Are there any snappers out to catch? If so I will drive the kids to the creek this weekend.

Yea. Bluefish come around to spawn in the spring, so you can catch them all spring and summer, then snappers are August/September.....

I'll fish in the snow. LOL

But, it's still a little too early.

When I was a kid we'd go out in a jon boat with my grand dads 8hp Evinrude on it and bail flounders. Come home with a least 20 fish each. Now you go out and waste gas trying to put 2-3 fish in a bucket. No thanks, I gave up long ago.
I guess we shouldn't have taken so many back then but we didn't know better and the stocks should have replenished long ago, like stripers did. Must be the commercial guys.

My father was a flounder shark. He'd be rolling in his grave over this situation.

I can remember running a double rig and pulling them in 2 at a time when I was a kid. Now, flounder fishing is harder than catching a 32" striper.

With this weather, it should be an early bass season. Gotta get the boat in before May!

is the flounder fishing itself that bad, or is it the keeper limit? I remember fishing with my dad, killing it in the back bays going out of point lookout. I've heard that the keeper limit of 2 fish has killed it for the party boats going for flounder, but are they that hard too actually find?

Flounder fishing is horrible these days. Commercial fishing killed it

My canal is loaded with bunker already, big ones ... Baldwin .

Now if only I can find the bass in the back bays here I'll be set . I do real well in the fall in the back bays with stripers but can't seem to find them in the back bays in spring
