Looking for recommendations for a (NY legal) semi-automatic in .308 or 30-06. What do you recommend?

M1 Garand, or the new Springfield socom. Because, the "stock is behind the action". SMH!

Not to hijack the thread but my thoughts exactly based on the SAFE thread.

You'd be a fool to buy any SA rifle in NYS now. I'm not even sure about buying another pistol!

Which is probably an intended side effect of the issue.

Don't care anymore. Gonna make me a criminal one day for no reason. Then one day I'm gonna act like one.

Garand will appreciate in value. And still shoots like a beast.

But a Springfield M1A is a sweet piece.

Maybe one day. I just can't afford another caliber right now lol.

Police don't determine what is legal, legislators and the courts do.

The curtain hasn't even opened on this drama yet.

Meanwhile, OP, millions of happy hunters have successfully used Remington 7400, 742's or 750s in either caliber for over 60 years.

This thought has me greatly vexed...
My cousins been waiting for a NY compliant rifle to be built... she's now in limbo asking me what she should look at now as a replacement...
In my head I'm thinking, just get a bolt action and call it a day...
😕

Just a word to the wise no matter where you live. CMP is coming to an end of Garands. The last couple of weeks the auctions have dried up. Signs all pointing to end of era. If you have a grand to spend get the rebuilt Special Grade Garand. In secondary market these will sell for 2k - 3k.

Would you be interested in a very good condition Browning bar 30.06 semi auto, made in Belgium by fabrique and national?
