Looking to take the wife and cousin pistol shooting. Not sure of their laws about unlicensed pistol holders. I have a CT CCW so I'm not looking to take a long grip to PA. Any good ranges close to the NY border?

Hiller Sports in Norwalk is a really nice indoor range - but they don't let you shoot at all if you don't have a pistol permit. I go to the Bridgeport Shooting Range a lot, but honestly, I'm not sure if your wife or cousin can touch a handgun at any range without the permit. Private land is another story, of course.

Hoffmans guns is in middle CT (2 hours from nassau). They allow non pistol permit holders to shoot under someone else with a license (at least for resident licenses). I know this because my FIL got his license first and took me and my wife with him to try out some guns.

Now on to trying out guns...they have some cool deals like the "10 for 10". They let you try any handgun with 10 rounds for 10 bucks. I tried Les Baer 1911 and some 357 mags a few weeks ago. The 10 for 10 counts as range time too (you don't pay additional range fee). However, you do have the option of paying range fee, picking up a few boxes of ammo and taking the gun in with you for half an hour if you choose to do so.Their rental selection is very good (I would estimate about 60 different handguns). Call up and see if they will allow you to go with non CCW. link below.

To boot, hoffmans is about 10 minutes away from Cabelas which is also a fun family friendly place with a pretty good gun selection, boats, quads, hunting gear, gun library, natural history style taxidermy.

For some grub afterwards, Hoffmans is also only 10 minutes from Sushi House in Rocky Hill (awesome all you can eat place). On the way home you will pass through New Haven on I-91 which is home to many of CTs top ranked restaurants.

ETA cabelas and hoffmans are also relatively close to Glastonbury and Farmington if the chicks want to go shopping.

Shooters Pistol Range in New Milford. Nice indoor range. Allows non-licensed people shoot. Rental guns available, but if you rent, you MUST use their ammo. (Not unreasonable).

You're legally allowed to transport through the state with your guns, but once in the parking lot and getting out of the car, your guns are illegal. I solved that with a CT non-resident license.

NJ anyone can shoot and can use your guns and ammo, I go to Lakewood but there is a closer place about 10 minutes from Giants stadium.
