So I've been doing alot of thinking and have decided that my next handgun will be an 1911.I know it's a new design and not many people have them plus I hear they are'nt reliable but I want one anyway I did some tire kicking today and will have about $600-$700 to spend and am wondering what would be my best bet.So if you have one that was in that price range I wanna hear what you got and how they are working out for you. Thanks in advance.

Remington has a nice new 1911 for a little more than 500 pesos. Campsite has a couple of those. It is GI style with an amazing crisp trigger and useful nice sights; unlike the regular GI ones.

I have one of those "New Models" its a Kimber and I have yet to be able to feed 50 rounds with out some type of failure. I have about 450 rounds through it. When i pack up for a range session the Hk tends to get he job (Although its not a 1911).
Take a look at ParaUSA, they have a whole plethora of 1911s to choose from. Can't go wrong with a 1911 as far as I'm concerned.......and that's coming from a Limey!

I have only put 100 rounds through the RIA... but... I LOVE IT my favorite pistol so far. And right in that price range. I went with the A1 for the adjustable rear and fiber front sites.
It is built using machinery from a factory in the Philippines that once produced Colt 1911s.
And for the love it hate it nomine, I have a Taurus PT-1911 and I have had only one FTF in thousands of rounds. I can guarantee you that it was because I did not have a good grip on it. I will never publically admit that I limp-wristed it.

At that price range you'll get a bare bones 1911. I spent 1100 on my first one (a Colt). I would suggest getting a used Colt or second hand springfield for the amount you want to spend.
There was a nice used 1911 Colt in the for-sale section that I almost bought. It might still be available.
I looked at the rock island GI Model. I didn't like the sights nor the finish the pistol had. Thats just me though. If its intended to be a shooter then you can't go wrong with the above suggestions.
Look for a beavertail to avoid hammer-bite. I like the commander-type hammer too.

I'll second the Taurus PT1911. I picked up mine as an entry level introduction to the 1911 club. A buddy of mine with a Wilson Combat (or Les Baer, I forget which) and 2 Kimbers, 1 being from their Custom Shop, started to berate me mercilessly during a trip up to my country house for the weekend. By the time we got there, I was ready to sell it, trade it in, or just throw it into the pond.
Well, Saturday morning, after breakfast, we went to the pistol range where I was instructed to leave my Brazillian made piece of crap in the case while 3 great legends were on the table. So, I did, and shot his guns. Later, at lunch, I confessed that I couldn't feel any difference in the handling and I liked my own trigger even better. When we got back to the house, Sal had me get my Taurus so he could educate me. After he fired a mag, he looked at me surprised and said ... "nice trigger". After several more magazines, we retreated into the house to the mud room for some gun cleaning. Here Sal was going to show me the hidden differences. But, when he disassembled my Taurus, he was shocked, and started explaining things I still don't understand, like guide rods and bushings. I guess the guts aren't so bad either. still, the only thing I don't like is the "Big" Taurus name on the side.
A month later, Sal brought his 4th 1911, a Stainless Taurus PT1911 with rail.
If you want to meet up and shoot mine, I'll even pay for the first box of shells. After that, if you decide to buy something else, I will understand.
I think Bruce @ Hunters Essentials has a Black one with rail for around $650.00. {Gratuitous shilling on my part}.

Never had a problem with my Kimber. But they are oriced above your price range. And if you ask m14bullets about his experience with Para's, you will here some horror stories. That said, many Springfields are in your price range. And the new Remington is worth a look.

By the way, I'm not claiming that the Taurus is the second coming of christ. But, it's not the jalopy some make them out to be. Again, you're more than welcome to put 50 rounds through mine.

I'd second the Taurus 1911. Amazing gun for the price. A lot of people hate on it nowadays because in the initial run of them years when they were first introduced, supposedly they had some issues, but it seems to be all sorted out. Mine is perfect thus far.

WAIT I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH MY PARA ---WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT ---"PARA HAS IT" (IT IS THEIR PROBLEM)STILL NO PROBLEM FOR ME ---THEY JUST ARE LOOKING FOR ME TO SAVE MONEY ON AMMO BY NOT HAVING A HIGH-CAP TOP OF THE LINE LIMITED MODEL TO SHOOT, THAT HAS NEVER WORKED SINCE IT WAS NEW. MY 96 YEAR OLD COLT JUST KEEPS ON WORKING
I WOULD BUY ANOTHER ONE IN A BURRO BEET

Getting a bad 1911 is like getting bad pizza, or having bad sex, even at their worst they are still pretty good. Lots of good suggestions so far, especially the springfields. Its out of your price range but I went with a double star 1911. Made in kentucky, no mim, real great shooter. Have heard great things about the RIA pistols though so def worth a shot.

+1 If you're interested at all in one of these Campsite does have them right now. Shawn took it out of the case for me tonight and I have to say it felt pretty good and was nicely finished. Trigger was a little heavy for my taste but still broke very crisp.
I have the Taurus 1911 with Accessory rail, I recommend it, Campsite had one for $750 a few weeks ago, I got mine for $629 on gunbroker, but had to pay $50 for Cobis and another $50 for FFL, so it came out to more or less the same price, sans tax. Great piece for the money. I'd put it up against a Kimber anyday.

He showed me the same one a couple of weeks ago, great piece for the $$.

I played with one today at South Shore Sportsman. Also the Para and RIA.All seemed real nice for the $$ but the RIA just felt alittle different in my hand.Maybe because it would save me some $$$.I went to Campsite early today for the 2nd time ever and was too crowded at the gun counter to see anything and I did'nt feel like waiting,my sons were getting impatient.I have aa few months to make my choice,All I know is it can't be silver

I have a Colt 1991a1 that I have fired many thousand of rounds of reloads with. When it gets dirty it ftf sometimes with semi wadcutters. With ball or 230gr round nose lead using 5.0 gr ww231 it runs like the eveready bunny. If I could only keep one gun this would be it. Colt series 80 has a firing pin block that will block the pin unless the trigger is pulled. USGI and springfield dont have it. When I was in the service one of the guys had the hammer cocked in his holster and the gun went off striking himself in the leg. Something to consider.

mine took about 1000rnds. before it ran 100%. actions are tight and need lots of oil and breaking in.
I have a Taurus PT 1911 Stainless as my first 1911 as well. Fired without fail, fresh out of the box... Used it during a IPSC winter shoot at Pine Barrens alongside great 1911's and never had a problem while many had difficulty with theirs due to very cold and some other reasons... Used it as well on IDPA matches and my PT 1911 has never malfunctioned yet... Well, this is my Taurus PT-1911... Every 1911 behaves differently, I guess. Anyway, here is a great forum site if you want more info on this pistol...
