Hi all, I live in Manhattan, New York City and my handgun license was suspended in back in June 2009 because I failed to report an arrest to the NYPD License Division (I had just gotten my license a week or two earlier, and was not aware of the rules at the time)
After a year suspension, I found out that my license was revoked, but good news is that I am allowed a hearing (August 10th)
Does anyone have any suggestions/caveats/strategies/lessons learned on how I can best present myself in this hearing and increase my chances of having my license reinstated?
They are extremely vague about what you need to provide in the way of evidence or justification, and I'm not even really sure if it is all just a puppet trial...
Any suggestions or comments are welcome, and I thank you in advance for any assistance.
Was it just an arrest? or was there a conviction too?

Lose your moral compass, and you will lose your liberty. The ultimate form of control is self-control.
Life is tough, but it's tougher when you're stupid. I won't be wronged, I won't be insulted, and I won't be laid a hand on. I don't do these things to other people and I expect the same from them.
Thank much for all of your advice, guys - to be completely candid, my arrest was for a DWI (my first and only one)
In the end I was convicted of a DWI Traffic Violation and had my license suspended for 3 months and had to take a Drunk Driving Prevention course and pay a 750 dollar fine - I don't believe that there is anything on my record that prevents me from owning a handgun now - but I am not exactly sure.
Since then (May 2009) I haven't had any other arrests or issues with the law.
I didn't want to have to spend the additional money to get a lawyer, but it seems like that is really the best strategy. I will start reaching out to Murtha and Murtha.
Honestly, I think what the investigating officers are looking for are honesty and accountability.
If it were me, I would go in there and make no excuse for what I had done. Carefully explain what happened and own up to an obvious mistake in judgment. People make mistakes, if we didn't, we wouldn't need pencil erasers. Let the cards fall where they may. If they re-issued the license great, if not, wait the required amount of time and re-apply. Good luck.

Best advice is don;t go to the hearing by yourself. Invest the $ and go with a lawyer. If the revocation stays permenant, on every aaplication from that point on you will have to asnwer yes to have you ever had a license orpermit revoked. That can seriously come back to haunt you later on. A lawyer is no guarantee of course but you will have a better chance. Especially for NYC. Good luck

I dont want to sound like a Debbie Downer buuuuuut werent one of the questions on the application "have you ever been arrested and or convicted of a felony or misdemenor" Now I dont know about you but I got arrested once and I will never forget central booking. Granted it was for a suspended drivers license but non the less an arrest. I put that down on my pistol permit application. So again how do you forget. And its not vague. The question is simple. Its either you have or havent. My friend got arrested 20 years ago in NJ and he put down his arrest on his pistol application. As far as advice. Get a pro gun attorney
