Will NY states AWB laws ever sunset? I would assume these laws are forever until a pro gun politician gets into NY (which will probably never happen).  Just looking for a glimmer of hope (not the kind that obama promises us).

Thanks

Opps... I put this in the wrong forum.  Mods please move if this bothers anyone, thanks!

Most likely not as NYC dominates in population of NYS, hence they have good number of presence in NYS senate as well as in NYS assembly.

But then again, there's nothing wrong about dreaming to be once again living in a state that will honor its citizens rather than treating them like a potential criminals

it will not be "sunsetting" as no such date was built into the law.

There is a fairly big hearing happening down in D.C tomorrow.

I could argue that if it goes well, and one took that case along with the Heller case's "in common use" claim, the NYS assault weapons ban could be challenged.

Why that turncoat Pataki passed the NYAWB bill in the middle of the night, I'll never figure out...he was a Republican, albeit a liberal one. He must have owed some Dems a big political favor and it was time to pay it back.

You will never see this NY AWB be reversed with folks like Schumer, McCarthy, Bloomberg, Clinton, et al, as part of the political fabric of this iron curtain state.

yeah, but if Senore El Guapo, AKA Bobtorre gets elected as one of our officials, this could all change.

I still don't get why Pataki had to do it.  He was viewed as pretty good by the NRA based on his effort of preserving hunting ground for the NYS.  But then again, that has nothing to do with AWB.

Like Phoenix said, he most likely owed a few dem favors and they called it in.

It's a damn shame it has to be this way.  I know I am preaching to the choir.  I was just hoping to hear that there might be a light at the end of the tunnel.  Hopefully, our NRA and NRA-ILA contributions can have some impact on this in the future.  I won't hold my breath though.

Last time NRA called me for $$$ I told the woman I would contribute more when they started to do something IN MY STATE, she agreed and said, "Goodnight."

Just to set the record straight on Patak: he is anti-gun and was fully supportive of the AWB.  Not only was he a Republican governor screwing us, but he got it past a then Republican State Senate (whose leadership was gun-friendly).  He cut a deal with Joe Bruno and Shel Silver... the Repubs rolled on the AWB and the Dems in the Assembly rolled on some tax bill if I recall.  At the time the NYS AWB was passed the Federal ban was still in place so Pataki was able to argue that NYS was only putting a law into place that mirrored the Federal law.... except it didn't mirror the Federal AWB (no sunset).  At that time people assumed the Federal ban would be re-instituted.

I'm a registered Republican and have never voted for a Democrat in my life, but I will always remember that it was Republicans in New York that messed gun owners.

It really sucks when you get hurt from your own people  I hope 2010/2012 is the year that republicans and conservatives actually act like republicans and conservatives!
