Just something I have been wondering. Say you have a handgun license and a handgun. Are you allowed to, in your house, carry your handgun in a holster that is not concealed? I understand it is your home and you can have a gun out in it but more specifically if you are walking around with it holstered and exposed. What if you were to walk by a window and a neighbor saw your gun? Can you accidentally brandish (not sure if that is the right word) your firearm to someone outside of your house and get in trouble? Hopefully I am explaining clearly enough. Thanks. |

Not really your fault and I don't mean this sarcastically, but that question should never have been asked and without goig into it I'm sure that there are a bunch of people here that know what I mean |

I am assuming you mean because there should be no reason what so ever the county can tell you what you are able to do in your own home but I have seen crazier things. If you meant that any handgun license owner should know this answer, I do not have a handgun license, it was just something I was curious about. I know Nassau County has some crazy rules and I really wouldn't be surprised if you werent allowed to do this. I do know one man was sued for indecent exposure because at like 6am before work he was making coffee naked in his kitchen and a woman and kid walking by saw him. |

I thought it was a very legitimate question and governments and times being as they are, a question many people would have. |

You gotta watch out for those windows. I remember a news story a few months back where a guy was found guilty for indecent exposure because he walked passed a window nude in his house and someone saw from outside.

I would not want to be walking past my window with a gun exposed simply because their are many paranoid people out there. One phone call to the Police from a paranoid neighbor saying you were pointing a gun at them, can at worst bring the swat team to your house. You can easily lose or have your license suspended just from someone claiming you threatened them with a gun. It doesn't even have to be true. The pistol license section in Nassau must immediately confiscate all your handguns and your license. Even if the charges are found to be false, they still hold your guns and license for at least 6 months. This is direct from the people in the dept, and from somewhat personal experience.. |

Note to self: Stop open carrying while naked. On a side note, you may open carry inside your house. You may carry concealed on your property. It was not a stupid question, and you should have asked it if you are curious. We're here to help. Now for the disclaimer: No information that you receive on an internet forum should be construed as reliable, it is our recommendation that before you act, you consult an attorney yada, yada, yada..... (Put it this way....its legal for us to carry concealed going to and from the range. In order to do that we MUST, at some point, be open carrying within our house when we are putting the holster on and subsequently, the gun in the holster. So yes, its allowed...just be careful) |

oh i'm serious....the government wants you paranoid...ask anyone in the midwest that question and they would give you a look like yer from another planet...the only reason why we ask questions like that here is because our rights have been stripped away slowly to the point that we believe we could be doing something wrong when we actually have a constitutional right to carry all the time and especially inyour home...if someone was looking in my window...wait you shouldnt be looking in my window enough said |

I saw on the news how a boa got loose in one persons apartment, went into the toilet and came out in another apartments toilet bowl. The resident was sitting on the bowl when the snake popped out.

If you can be viewed from public property or the private property of another you can run into problems. Thanks for screwing this thread six ways from sunday, you guys are real useful. I wouldn't suggest answerign the door for the Police OC'ing, nor would I suggest you do any yard work with a rifle. If you frighten ANYONE, you will probly be arrested. |

If anyone calls in and reports a "neighbor with a gun", expect a visit. It's my understading that if you have a premise license, you may carry the gun on your property. The gray area is if you're outside. While you may be completely within the letter of the law, if in any way shape or form, it can be interperted as "menacing", you're in for a very long day. Just use your head. |

A Premise License menas that you can ONLY possess the listed pistols at a specific address, it has nothing to do with how you may possess, carry or display them. |

both previous posts are correct. Our license allows us to carry concealed from our homes to the range. Home and the range are the only 2 places where we can get away with open carry. Outside of your home, albeit true it is still your property, can be misconstrued as menacing if one of your neighbors catches a look of your pistola, even if it was not intentional on your part. Also if a gun fearing neighbor happens to knock on your door, your wife opens the door, he/she sees you open carrying and runs to her house to call 911; well like it was stated before it will be a long day and kiss your guns goodbye for a good 6 months until things are explained and cleared away. These are extreme cases and examples, but things we need to be aware. Remember they cannot stop you from getting your license if you are a law abiding citizen, but they are always vigilant to find reasons to take it away from you. |
