Heres my issue. I bought a Remington 870 slug gun last year at Dicks. Bought it around March. I never shot it.It sat in my closet for almost a year until two weeks ago. We finally brought it to the Range and fired some rounds off and it was fine. However it really is designed to have a scope on it. its a slug gun with cantilever on top so its a necessity to have a scope. So I bring the gun and scope to Bensons in Coram to have it mounted. I get a call today and he tells me that the scope cannot be mounted because he discovered that the cantilever may have been ripped off at one point and was apparently but pack on with glue. He says theres glue holding it on and it wouldnt be safe to mount it. That after a few shots the thing might just come loose and come off. Now I absolutely did not rip anything off or glue anything, i barely touched the gun. I called Dicks and they said they dont take Returns on guns so there is no way it happened there. I dont know what to do. Can i bring this to a Remington dealer? I have no clue how ro go about this. But I want a new gun that isnt glued together. I paid a good amount of money for this gun and its really bothering me that this happened. Any advice guys? |

There was nothing wrong with that gun when yo brought it in to get the scope mounted. Something sounds fishy here. |

I'd love to know how THEY know there's glue holding it on. Either something fishy is going on, or they don't know what they're talking about. (either is possible in this case) |

a call to remington and then a call to the better business bureau about benson's role in this issue. Although your post here has done more damage to Bensons than any report to BBB could ever do. Sorry for your troubles. |

How is the cantilever supposed to be mounted to the receiver? Permanently pinned? Drilled, tapped and screwed? We can bet it's not "glue", or even epoxy. (Maybe there's thread locking compound?)
I think you can forget about getting a new gun (from anyone in the mix). Guns are not subject to "Lemon Laws". Once you take delivery, it's yours. That's probably true with any retailer (otherwise there would be all manner of shenanigans with serial nos. and tracing, etc.). I think most domestic manufacturers are pretty good about support. Most likely, Remington will be willing to "make it right as new". But expect to pay, at least, for shipping back to the factory support center. They should do whatever repairs are necessary and ship it back. If you want to press the issue, ask them for call tag (so you don't pay for anything).
I had a slight problem with my new Mini-14 from South Shore Sportsman. The first time I field stripped it, the trigger assembly was ridiculously hard to reinstall. So much so, I was afraid to force it. I followed the instructions to the letter, watched a video on Ruger's site like ten times (made it look easy) and then I called Ruger. All they could do is offer to look at it at the factory. I didn't ask for a call tag because I decided that, before I'd send it back, I brought it back to SSS. The gunsmith there, just tweaked the floor plate and now it's much more like it's s'posed to be. What a bunch o' guys at SSS. |

I agree send it back to remington, they will assess the damage and may repair it for you if the gun doesn't look abused. Its your best shot at this point. good lock keep us posted. |

im going to pick up the gun tomorrow and maybe post some pictures for you guys to check out. Im pretty sure he said its supposed to be mounted with 2 screws. But he said theres only one screw and the other spot is glued and looks like it must have been broken at one point. I dont know enough about these things to know if that makes sense or not. Although ive heard Remington has pretty good customer service. Im hoping they can make it right. Does anyone know if the cantilever gets mounted to the barrel or to the gun? im just trying to figure out what to tell remington tomorrow at 9 am when i call lol. And considering they sell Remington guns there shouldnt they have been able to send it out for me? |

Red, it definitely doesnt look abused, Its been fired once at the range. less than 20 shots at most. It sat in my closet in a case for 10 months. May have collected dust but definitely not dropped or broken. BTW I appreciate all you guys helping me out. |

Gee......ANOTHER post about questionable / suspicious business practices by Benson's........
(I'd love to hear the defenses of Benson's for this...)

Looks like it mounts to the barrel, not the receiver. |

Please post pictures ASAP. Maybe they dropped it with a scope on it and broke it on you? I was scammed by them once before so who knows if they are being honest. Someone else said guns have no lemon laws and not to expect a new one this maybe true for some manufactures this IS NOT true for remington. They went above and beyond for any issues I have had including buying a gun back from me at full list price plus sales tax. |

Gee.I wonder when a screw that was put in at the factory could have magically gotten broken????? Perhaps gremlins tried to remove them as it sat in your closet? sounds fishy to me. Seriously when could the screw have broken except when someone went to remove it. I would give them hell. |

I went shooting with Weasertt last week before he brought his gun into get the scope mounted, and there was nothing wrong with it. I was actually comparing it to mine because they are similiar. No way that it went in there broken. |
