Due to the wonderful advice on this informative website, i just received my PA carry license and the entire process took less than 14-days from start to finish. I guess the FL license is the next project. Thanks again for passing along the good info.

Glad to hear you got your license quickly. I got mine in 8 days from the time I mailed it. Mine is from Centre county. May I ask what county you applied for yours in? Would like to pass as much good info as I can to other shooters I know.

Florida is painless, and good for 5 years.
Get 'em while you can.

Nope.
Most states and agencies are using electronic figerprinting these days.
If you're in Fla, there are a lot of places.
In NY, you have to make some calls.
Get busy though.

Congrats!

So does your LTC say reason: "protection"?
I thought in PA, you had to have a NY lic with no restrictions, not "to and from the range", to get a LTCF.

A few months back I just went to my local SCPD precinct.  They asked why I wanted the fingerprints.  I told them for the Florida gun permit and they asked for $10, my drivers license and the blank fingerprint cards.  A few minutes later, I was called and a civilian(?) took my fingerprints. The room where I was fingerprinted was dedicated to taking fingerprinting for background checks.  The process was quick, pleasant and painless.  I was told to hold on to my receipt for $10  so that, in case the fingerprints were rejected by Florida, they would reprint for free with the receipt.

Just call your local precinct.  When I asked, they told me to come any time 7x24 for fingerprinting, but you should call ahead to confirm.

20 years back the fingerprinting for background checks at the precinct used to be done in the arrested persons holding area and you had to wait for the holding area to be empty before they would take you there to be fingerprinted.

When you get finger printed, do they do it the old fashioned way with ink? Or is it the electronic style? If it's the new electronic fingerprinting, what do they give you to send to Fla?

There have been reported issues with the Suffok Sportsman license but a modified carry license should be just fine.

Ink.  The whole room was set up for ink printing for background checks needed by other agencies.  It seems that the fingerprints taken there are not used by the Police themselves.  It is a service to the public.

Wow I can't believe PA would want to slow this revenue source.  Seems like a no-brainer.

Quoted Text
Sheriff Denny Nau said the county processed about 9,900 licenses to carry last year, more than half of them from out of state. Nau said the new system will be nicer and easier, but it will probably mean a huge drop in the number of licenses his office processes and the money that it brings in. At $26 a license, with $20 of that going to the county, processing those out-of-state applications brought in almost $100,000 a year.
“We didn’t start this as a revenue (generator) because we never thought it was going to be like this,” Nau said.

The state doesn't care cause the money is for the counties.  Its still worth a little drive.  PA is a nice place to visit.  I would do it.

Not much. I mailed mine in on Monday.

a copy of your NY license, 26.00 check, a PA application and a SASE. It really couldn't be any easier.
