Im looking to get a post ban ny compliant AR-15, but wondering if I will have a problem finding a range to shoot it?
I have heard some private facilities are'nt ar-15 friendly, where does everyone go to shoot the ar's and ak's?
Thanks

AR15's and AK47s  are allowed to shoot at Mitchell Field as long as you use Soft Point or HP bullets.

I usually go to Mitchell field at least once a month.  AKs and ARs are a common sight.

Calverton I understand has no trouble with them and was told the AR15 club/org meets there once a month. That was 2 years ago and don't know if they still exist.

You can shoot air to air missiles at Carvelton.

I shoot out at Calverton and my AR-15 is like a pop gun compared to what people shoot out there.

Currently they only allow ground to air missles. They have no runway yet (But I heard they are working on it).

Yeah, they have been having some slight issues with the Big 50's blowing stands and spotting scopes ....off the benches next to them!

The range officer at Calverton got a little upset when I fired off my FIM-92 Stinger.

Most ranges have no restrictions on AR or AK guns. They are after all just another semi-auto gun. But some will frown on you loading a 30 round clip and rapid firing .But ranges do have restrictions on ammo used. Most indoor ranges won't allow full metal jacketed  rifle rounds. Outdoor ranges(100+ yards) will allow them. Just caal the range to find out their particular restrictions.

No problems using ARs at the Freeport R&R Range, Uniondale (HP/SP ammo), LIPSA (Pine barrens), Calverton or the Brookhaven Range.

AR's are friendly at every range I know of........

ammo selection might not be - some ask you to shoot only hollow point round to reduce wear and tear that a full metal jacket might cause.

But when he shot this one, they got a little nervous.  Maybe it was because the guy using the port a john threw a fit after it blew the sides off.
