Long Island Firearms
A few minutes ago, my dad knocked on my door and told me the NYPD was asking for me. They wanted to inspect my guns, my permit and my paper work to make sure the serial numbers all matched up. I went downstairs, greeted them and what not and they told me I could bring the guns to the door for them to inspect. I then said nahh just come to my room and I'll show you everything, I'm not bringing my guns outside. Knowing that my parents are anti's they were now acting nervous as to why they were here in my room.
The gun I was concerned about was my Benelli M4, which is configured NYC compliant, they took a look at that along with my Ruger 10/22, matched the serial numbers, looked at my permit, said thank you have a good night and went on their way.
A couple of the questions they asked me:
How many guns do you own? I own 2 officer, thats all I need. Do you have a pistol permit also, where is it? I dont have a pistol permit 1 Police Plaza was giving me a hard time about it Is your gun loaded? nope... my guns are unloaded and the ammo is kept separate Wow, how much money did you spend on that M4? geez!?!? about $1600 dollars officer
I was very cooperative with them as I offered them my registration, my permit etc etc. and when the officers saw that I had my guns locked up in a nice hard and water proof Storm case, unloaded, and stuffed in the back of my closet it put a smile on their face.....as they got to see that I am a responsible gun owner.

I never had a problem with hunter sports I thought they seem to be straight. Every mag they sold me had a date stamped on it. As far as the stocks go I never bought an ar there so Im not shore. |

This is a routine type of incident, for NYC PD. They do it to handgun owners and long gun owners, usually hoping to find something wrong. Rarely do the find anything but they keep looking. It's better than looking for or chasing real criminals and a whole lot safer, for them. Gary |

It's much easier when you know where a legal person is, rather than actually having to look for a criminal |

You cannot legislate violence out of existence. Restrictive gun control laws only benefit vote seeking politicians and criminals. |

They have rights. I don't think we do any longer.

Ugh I mean if you live in LI and NYPD comes knocking on your door don't you have the right to tell them to buzz off? I mean what jurisdiction do they have in LI? On the other note part of me would tell them to kick rocks but knowing Bloomburger and the stick he he has up his butt about guns maybe the better thing to do is let them check the guns out. Sucks both ways if you ask me. |

There sees to be some confusion. The thread was about a NYC resident being visited, by the NYC PD. They have no authority, outside of NYC. Gary |

Holy necropost Batman! |
| It seems to me that every time a cop is shot its big news. A death could be front page news for a week. Why? Why have we put the police on pedestals? These are just people who are doing their jobs. Isn't getting shot at part of the job description?

Just to clarify some things up, any police officer in New York has "jurisdiction" anywhere in the state of NY while it's in the performance of his or Her duties. So it would probably be in your best interest to not tell whomever is at your door to "buzz off". Goodluck |

This is true but youll never find an nypd officer knocking at your door in nassau county for a routine serial number check. Any cases of this going on in nassau or suffolk counties? |

No, it's still in your best interest to tell them to buzz off, and to get a warrant. |
